Something About Avocados

While I am very adventurous in exploring different tastes, foods and textures, I have never been able to reconcile with avocados. There is something about the beautiful green colour, that as a designer I find highly appealing yet tremendously duped by the texture. I've tried it a hundred times in sushi, guacamole, hidden in dressings, salads and various other methods of deceit, but each time I can FEEL it.
Amused by my silly sensitivity, my avacodo addicted daughters attempt to sway me with various concoctions—I'm sure solely for the funhouse mirror facial distortions they illicit from me.
After discovering avocado smoothies at a local pho house ($7 apiece) they looked for inspiration online to recreate them at home.
(inspired by several recipes they found)
Per smoothie
1 ripe avocado
1 tbsp pure maple syrup
1 cup skim milk or unsweetened almond milk
Pinch of salt
Pinch of nutmeg
5 ice cubes
Blend until smooth
Garnish with pistachios or mint (if you are not running for a school bus)
Feed this mixture to your funhouse-mirror-faced mother and watch with disappointment: She likes it, SHE LIKES IT!
